A collection of 16 wooden models of the s, p, d, and f atomic orbitals. 

What it shows

These are a vintage collection of beautiful painted wooden models representing the s, p, d, and f atomic orbitals. The photo below shows seven f orbitals (top row), five d orbitals (middle row), and three p orbitals and one s orbital (bottom row). Each wooden orbital model represents the three-dimensional region of space in which there is a high probability of finding an electron as predicted by the probability density of the electron's wavefunction.

These models help students visualize the electron clouds of an atom and make the highly abstract concept of a wavefunction a bit more concrete.

There is also a 2s orbital that is not shown in the image below.
